All the Apple iPad owners can rejoice. You are onto a good thing. As per the latest tablet market trends report released by research firm, Gartner, the Apple iPad is all set to leave competition far behind not only for this year, but right up to 2014. To say that this finding has been a surprise would be wrong. It has been quite obvious, looking at the current sales trends in the tablet market.
The sales forecasts for the Apple ipad look very encouraging this year. According to Gartner’s report, this smart phone will garner a market share of 73.4% amongst the tablet sales worldwide. And what would make this victory even sweeter for Apple would be the humungous distance between itself and other competitors. In fact, as per the Gartner report, no other tablet platform apart from the android will account for more than 5% market share.
Apple iPad’s Dream Run to Continue
According to Carolina Milanesi, VP Research at Gartner, Apple iPad will continue to race ahead grabbing more than half the market share till 2014. After all Apple created this market in the first place. Of course, Apple has not been content with just its first mover advantage. The company has had its ear to what the customer wants. Today the Apple iPad offers the best user experience in terms of services, software and hardware.
The Competitors
Apple iPad’s USP and the reason for its overwhelming popularity is the user experience it delivers. Competitors who are unable to match this experience will further contribute to Apple’s march ahead. However it is important to note that in the dynamic tablets market, though Apple iPad has the largest projected market share this year at 73.4%, it has dipped from 83% during the same period last year – a drop of 10%, which will probably keeps Apple on its toes and rightly so.
A quick look at how the competitors fared in this report.
- According to Gartner, android tablets will account for 17.3% of the market share this year up from last year’s 14.3%. But the confidence with which Gartner views the future for android is not encouraging given its high price, unfriendly user interface and a lack of apps. However the expectations from the ‘to be launched’ Amazon android tablets are high.
- As per Gartner’s research findings, the RIM platform that gave us the PlayBoook this year shows promise. We need to adopt a ‘wait and watch’ approach on this.
- The Gartner report is not very positive about the Windows 8 based tablet, whose late arrival into the market may be its undoing.
The bottom line is this. Apple iPads are going to lead the way through till 2014. If others want to catch up, they better pull up their socks and focus on delivering what the customer wants. This includes quality apps, intuitive user interface and an ability to provide a unified platform for various devices. The Apple iPad scores on all these accounts. So its trail blazing growth is no surprise to anyone.
